Members of the Senior Public Diplomacy Group headed by Choi Ha-kyung welcomed guests and speakers to the Annual Korean Culture & Heritage Dinner Party at Ibis Myeongdong Ambassador Hotel in Seoul on Thursday night.
The event was held in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and included two 20-minute lectures by Seoul Tourism Organization Vice President Maureen O'Crowley and Professor David Mason from the Royal Asiatic Society Korea Branch (RASKB).
O'Crowley's talk, titled "Spotlight Korea: Showcasing the Nation Globally," focused on the history of Seoul, Seoul tourism and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) tourism.
"The Fascinating Life and Sites of Korea's Lonely-Cloud Sage" was the theme of Prof. Mason's presentation which gave a brief history of Choe Chi-won, a noted Korean Confucian official, philosopher and poet of the Later Unified Silla period (668-935).
The evening was also an opportunity to network with known writers and scholars of Korean history such as RASKB President Brother Anthony, author Tom Coyner and writer Robert Neff as well as pansori (traditional Korean storytelling songs) performers from Airirang.
The 50 guests were presented with gift packs from the Senior Public Diplomacy Group and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
