North Korea has postponed a major party congress of its Workers' Party to Oct. 10, 2016, according to a report by its state-run media, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
In reporting on the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's field inspection of a catfish farm Wednesday, the KCNA said that the North Korean leader mentioned that the "modernization of the Samcheon catfish farm could be completed by Oct. 10, 2016, when the 7th Congress of the Workers' Party will be held."
North Korea had said earlier that the congress, which would be the first in 36 years, would be held in early May.
But South Korean officials are skeptical about the news, saying that the North would make such an announcement more formally. The officials say that they are still attempting to confirm whether the party congress has been postponed.
