A vice spokesman of the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD) offered to resign Thursday following a controversy over his latest Facebook post expressing "respect" for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
"President Park Geun-hye made a great achievement. Chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un, too, made a hard decision. I respect both," Huh Young-il wrote in his Facebook post, Wednesday.
"But I respect President Park more. It must've been a tough call for her," he said.
He was referring to the Aug. 25 inter-Korean agreement for easing military tension on the Korean Peninsula.
"It is doubtful whether Huh is a member of a political party in South Korea," Saenuri Party vice spokesman Kim Hyung-jin said. "The comments were very inappropriate for a vice spokesperson of the main opposition party."
Huh deleted his post, saying his remarks were taken out of context.
"I just welcomed the outcome of the talks and praised two leaders for their hard work," Huh said.
