The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) will hire a new head of the Seoul Global Center, a support center for foreign residents in the city. Foreigners who have stayed in Korea for more than five years can apply for the position.

The main responsibility of the post is supervising the support programs for foreign residents who do not speak Korean fluently.

Applicants must be fluent in at least one foreign language. Korean citizenship is not required.

“This is a rare opportunity for foreigners to take a high-ranking post in the city government,” an SMG official said. “We decided to open the position to foreigners to encourage more of them to participate in our administration.”

Applicants, who do not have a bachelor’s or higher degree, are required to have professional experiences in broadcasting, promotion, support of foreigners, consultation or cultural exchange work for more than 8 years. Five-year experience is required for those who have such a degree.

A successful candidate will sign a two-year contract. Based on the performance, the SMG will decide whether to renew it.

The remuneration of the position will be determined under the Wage Regulations for Regional Public Officials. It may be adjusted through consideration of the applicant’s qualification, capacity and work experience. According to the regulations, the minimum annual salary is expected to be 52 million won ($46,000).

Applications should be sent to the Career Employment Team, Seoul HR Development Center, 58, Nambusunhwan-ro 340-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul 137-071.

The applications must be submitted from July 6 to 8 by visit or post. Applications will be accepted only if they are received by 6:00 p.m.
