The head of Peruvian investment authorities encouraged Korean companies to join the bidding for construction of the Lima Metro Line 3 project.
During a speech to the Asia Road Show at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul on May 14, Carlos Herrera, executive director of Peruvian investment and procurement agency ProInversion, praised Korean companies for their advanced technology and adaptation capabilities.
“I think that Korean conglomerates’ technology level is strong and sufficient enough to be able to construct Lima Metro Lines 3 and 4. They have also shown strong performances in adaptability,” the Peruvian official said.
ProInversion has been overseeing and managing several projects worth $15 billion.
Approximately 120 Korean investors, including Samsung and Hyundai, joined the annual investment promotion event to find business opportunities in the Latin American country. Meetings for business matching took place later at the event.
The Embassy of Peru in Seoul said that among several infrastructure projects, Korean investors showed keen interest in the Lima Metro Line 3 project.
The north-south alignment of the subway line will link the Santiago de Surco and Comos areas of the city.
Peruvian Ambassador to Korea Jaime Pomareda stressed in a speech to the investment event that Korea-Peru relations are stronger than ever before.
“I hope that Korean investors can have opportunities to find immense business opportunities in Peru as lots of infrastructure projects are underway there,” he said.
The Peruvian Embassy said that Korea is one of Peru’s target trade partners. Over the past five years, it said Korean companies’ investment in Peru has increased sharply.
A flurry of high-level visits followed after President Park Geun-hye visited Peru for summit talks with her Peruvian counterpart in April.
During the summit, the two leaders agreed to expand bilateral cooperation into high-value added areas, such as healthcare, infrastructure building and e-government. Officials of the two governments signed 20 memoranda of understanding calling for cooperation in those areas.
