About 700 fourth and fifth grade elementary students in 25 Seoul schools will receive "universal design" education to learn how to be considerate to the elderly and disabled, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said Wednesday.
"We hope universal design education will serve as a foundation for young students to grow up as open-minded citizens," Lee Chun-sik, a city official, said.
Starting from Sinne Elementary School today, 25 schools will hold the classes from 10 a.m. to noon.
A professional education company will organize the classes.
During the classes, students will simulate the problems senior citizens and disabled people come across in their daily lives.
For example, they will make things with clay wearing blindfolds to understand the problems caused by poor sight.
After the activities, students will discuss the inconvenience they felt and share ideas to solve the problems.
