President Park Geun-hye named five new ambassadors to Turkey, South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria and Cambodia as part of a routine reshuffle of overseas envoys.
Cho Yun-soo, 56, was tapped as Seoul’s top envoy to Turkey; Choi Yeon-ho, 57, to South Africa; Kim Weon-jin, 54, to Cambodia; Chung Kwang-kyun, 58, to Egypt; and Noh Kyu-duk, 51, to Nigeria.
Cho, who joined the ministry in 1981, served as the former principal secretary to the speaker of the National Assembly from April last year.
Choi was consul-general at the Korean Consulate General in Vancouver, Canada from August 2010.
Kim was a minister at the Korean Embassy to Japan from May 2013. Both Choi and Kim entered the ministry in 1983.
Chung served as consul-general at the Korean Consulate General in Toronto, Canada from August 2011.
Noh, worked as director-general for the Korean Peninsula Peace Regime at the ministry headquarters in Seoul from April last year.
