A gyrating dance move known as the "wiggle" has gone viral around the world, and Korea is no exception.
Inspired by Jason Derulo's summertime smash by the same name, featuring Snoop Dogg, the "wiggle" has gone viral. Many have posted videos – often humorous – of themselves doing the hip-shaking maneuver.
Korea is no exception: Over 70 thousand people have subscribed a Korean Facebook page dedicated to the move since it opened five days ago. As of Tuesday, around 100 videos had been posted.
Most of the videos feature young women, though some have been posted by men as well. Others have been humorous, such as one video of a mother and daughter performing the move; another features Teletubbies.
The administrator of the page, identified by the name "Kenzo Kim," said that when he first saw the wiggle trend he knew it would become viral, "just like the (ALS) ice bucket challenge."
Kim told The Korea Times that the community – called the "Wiggle Wiggle Page" in Korean -- received over 10,000 likes on the first day and that some 30 new videos arrive each day.
"I'm running the Facebook page by myself in my spare time, and people have been sending short bios of themselves when they send in videos of themselves dancing," he said, adding that some entries have been too lewd to post.
Nearly 59,000 users have "mentioned" the Facebook page and 70,576 have "liked" it.
A similar Korea-based Facebook page, "Wiggle Wiggle Legend," recently appeared and garnered nearly 33,000 subscribers.
