Pop-rock icon Lee Seung-hwan is fasting this week in solidarity with families of victims of the Sewol ferry sinking, who want the country to pass a special law related to the disaster.


Lee, 50, wrote on his Facebook page Monday that he would join the strike, which calls on the country to pass the special law to get to the bottom of the tragedy, in which over 300 people perished.

He said he would participate until Thursday, citing major events he had previously committed to.

Lee concluded his Facebook post by saying, "pitiful citizens that we really are…" in reference to the social strife that has gripped the nation in the aftermath of the tragedy.

The ruling and opposition parties are deadlocked on the issue, with the latter this week boycotting parliamentary activities.

가수 이승환이 세월호 특별법 제정을 촉구하는 단식에 참여하겠다는 의사를 밝혔다.

이승환은 26일 오후 자신의 페이스북에 '참 불쌍한 국민입니다. 우린...'이라고 운을 띄우면서 '저도 오늘부터 세월호 동조 단식을 시작합니다. 토, 일요일에 큰 행사 있으니 목요일까지 할 예정입니다'라는 글을 올렸다. 

이어 '대마도로 끌려간 최익현이 단식에 돌입했을 때, 그 잔인한 일본군도 단식을 말리려 노력했습니다. 목숨 걸고 단식하며 만나 달라는 사람 거들떠보지도 않고 자갈치 시장이나 방문한 대통령을 두둔하는 자들, 심성이 이러니 일제 통치도 좋게 보이는 거죠'라는 역사학자 전우용의 말을 인용해 눈길을 끌었다.
