Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se will leave today for the Indonesian resort island of Bali to attend the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FELAC) which begins Thursday for two days, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

FELAC is a biennial event launched in 1999 to foster cooperation between East Asia and Latin American countries; two of the fastest growing economic regions in the world.

A total of 36 countries; 16 from East Asia including China and Japan, and 20 from Latin American have joined the ministerial meeting to date.

“Minister Yun will engage with the FELAC members to search for future growth engines for the country and also stress Korea’s role in cooperation between the two regions,” said a foreign ministry official.

Accepting Korea’s offer, the Cyber Secretariat for FELAC was established in Seoul in 2011, enhancing online communications between members.

Besides attending the forum, Yun also plans to make an official visit to Singapore.
