Kids and even adults love to eat instant noodles called ramyeon. But there is an 84-year-old man who has been eating ramyeon three meals a day for 41 years.
Park Byeong-ku of Hwachon in Gangwon Province professes to have been eating ramyeon produced by food maker Nongshim three times a day since 1972.
According to the company, Park began eating ramyeon as meals – more specifically “Ansong Tangmyun” for the last 25 years – to fill his stomach.
Nongshim said Park has intestinal problems and vomited whenever he consumed regular food. He tried medication and other treatment but nothing worked, except ramyeon.
Park was quoted as saying, “My digestive system became peaceful once I started eating ramyeon and I began to hope of living.”
As a compensation for “dedicating” his life to ramyeon, Nongshim has been providing free Ansong Tangmyun to Park since 1994.
A company researcher said the product contains more bean paste than other ramyeon and is relatively good for health.
“While Park represents a distinctive case, most youths need to consume foods like vegetables and eggs while eating ramyeon,” he said.
