President Lee Myung-bak will preside over a meeting with commanding officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force Tuesday, according to Cheong Wa Dae Sunday.
Presidential spokesman Park Sun-kyoo told reporters Sunday that it will be the first time for a sitting president to host a meeting with all commanding officers of the military.
"During the meeting, Lee will note what lessons the nation has learned from the sinking of the naval vessel Cheonan and reveal his position as commander-in-chief," said the spokesman.
President Lee is expected to ask the military leaders to pay extra attention to national security threats at the meeting which will be attended by 200 people, including civilian advisors.
The naval disaster killed 46 sailors. A multi-national investigation team has been looking into the incident since April.
Defense Minister Kim Tae-young said in a television program that the investigation is still underway but the military will try to wrap up the probe as soon as possible to inform the public of what happened to the ship.
The presidential office had reportedly reviewed issuing a statement regarding the maritime disaster. Sources said it delayed the announcement until the investigation team finds evidence to verify the cause of the sinking.
