Seoulites spend 42 mins to get to work

Seoullites spend an average 42 minutes and travel 11 kilometers to go to work daily, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said Monday.


They traveled 9.76 kilometers for 37 minutes to return home as of October, 2010, the city said after surveying 198,000 citizens.

Subways and trains topped the list of means of transport for commuting, marking 36.2 percent followed by buses with 28.1 percent and passenger cars with 24.1 percent and taxies accounting for the remainder.

It said about 73 percent of the surveyed used public transport during the morning rush hour between 7 to 9 a.m.

A total of 2.43 million passenger cars were registered, up 7.7 percent four years ago.
