Major Lee Hyung-jae was chosen as this year's "Top Gun," the country's most skilled Air Force pilot, according to officials Sunday.

Lee is with the Air Force's 11th fighter wing's 102nd squadron.

The 35-year-old received a high score of 839.1 points out of 1,000 in tests that evaluate performance.

Joining the Air Force in 1999, he switched from flying F-16Ks to F-15Ks in 2008 and altogether has flown 1,802 mission-hours to date.

"All pilots are top guns," said Lee after hearing the news Sunday. "I was able to get the award due to my colleagues' support and sacrifice."

"Every pilot should solely focus on accomplishing given missions and should be skilled in the process as it is the only way to succeed," Lee added.

He will receive the award at a ceremony to be held at the Air Force Club in Seoul on Dec. 12.

The Air Force has been selecting its best pilot annually since 1979.
