Korean rapper Psy, who earned global fame for his song, "Gangnam Style," won another accolade on Thursday, with the U.S. ambassador hailing him as a "perfect example of the growing ties" between the two nations.
U.S. Ambassador Sung Kim said he met Psy late last month, shortly after Psy returned home from his promotional tour in the U.S. The meeting was arranged as the rapper visited the U.S. embassy for a visa affair.
"At this moment, it feels like Psy is the most famous person on earth," Kim said in his article he posted on the U.S. embassy's blog. "But as I talked to him, what stood out to me was how humble and genuine he was. He is also very articulate, smart and pleasant.
"I think Psy is a perfect example of the growing ties between the U.S. and Korea, and that his activities and success in the U.S. will enhance people-to-people ties between our two countries," the ambassador said.
Kim said Psy's success will help promote "Korea's image overseas and have a positive impact on Korean-Americans."
The music video for "Gangnam Style" has garnered more than 400 million YouTube views, spawning an international sensation. (Yonhap)
