Police have taken into custody a former boyfriend of famous pop singer Ivy on suspicion of attempted blackmail after he threatened to circulate a video clip dealing with their relationship, her management agency said Friday.
Fantom Entertainment said the man, identified only by his family name Yoo, harassed Ivy for about one month, saying he would disclose intimate details of their relationship if she failed to give him 45 million won ($50,000).
The police said Yoo made the threatening calls and text messages on 200 occasions between Oct. 3-27 and damaged Ivy's car on Oct. 3.
Asked about the reason for the offense, Yoo confessed, "We have been seeing each other since 2005 but Ivy recently decided to dump me."
The man, currently out of work, started to date Ivy after the singer's debut, according to the agency. The agency did not describe the contents of the video clip and Ivy reportedly denied its existence.
The police sought an arrest warrant from a court on Thursday and will consider pressing charges after obtaining the warrant, the agency said.
The agency also said the man tried to sell the story of their relationship to news organizations and entertainment firms, adding the kind of things that he did would make a splendid case for defamation of both the agency and the singer.
