Incheon Airport wins consulting contract in Philippines
By Yun Suh-young
Incheon International Airport Corp. (IIAC) has won a third consulting contract in the Philippines, the corporation said Thursday. Company officials said it signed a contract Tuesday with the Department of Transportation and Communications of the Philippine government to act as consultants on Manila International Airport’s modernization project for its Terminal 3. In 2010, IIAC successfully helped Mactan-Cebu International Airport with its master plan and feasibility study. Last month, the firm signed a contract with Puerto Princesa Airport in Palawan to consult on construction project management there. This time, IIAC will advise Manila Airport on their information technology operation, baggage handling and communications systems for 12 months starting in October. The contract is worth $1.65 million. ‘We hope we can contribute to the development of infrastructure in the Philippine airport through this project,” said IIAC President and CEO Lee Chae-wook. “We plan to accelerate our overseas expansion in the Southeast Asian region,” he added. Since its partial construction in 2002, Manila International Airport’s Terminal 3 had not been properly used due to a lack of facilities although it has the capacity to handle 1,300 passengers. The airport plans to use Terminal 3 as the main international terminal. Meanwhile, IIAC has been actively participating in international airport projects since 2009. It has also provided consultancy services in airport projects in Iraq, Russia, Nepal, Cambodia and Indonesia. |
