1.5 million Koreans visit US in 2011: data
WASHINGTON (Yonhap) -- Nearly 1.5 million Koreans traveled to the United States last year on nonimmigrant admissions, government statistics showed Tuesday.
According to data by the Department of Homeland Security, 159 million nonimmigrant admissions -- mostly tourism and business travel -- from all nations were approved in 2011. Koreans numbered 1.46 million, the eighth largest, trailing Mexico, Britain, Japan, Germany, Canada, France and Brazil. It marks an increase from 1.33 million in 2010 and 906,000 in 2009. The report noted Korea is among 36 foreign nations benefiting from the U.S. visa waiver program. |
