WASHINGTON (Yonhap) -- On his first trip to South Korea in his capacity as the No. 2 Pentagon official, Ashton Carter had "substantiative discussions" with top South Korean officials on North Korea and the Seoul-Washington alliance, his department said Thursday.

Seoul was the last leg of his 10-day tour of Asia, which also took him to Hawaii, Guam, Japan, Thailand and India.
