Hwang In-seong

Former Prime Minister Hwang In-seong died of old age Monday. He was 84.

Born in 1926 in Muju, North Jeolla Province, Hwang served in key posts in both the military and the government.

A graduate of the Korea Military Academy, Hwang became a two-star general after serving as chiefs of the Army Central Finance Corps and the Ministry of National Defense’s financial bureau.

He later served at the prime minister’s office and the transport ministry. He was elected as lawmaker three times at the 11th, 12th and 14th National Assembly.

Later, Hwang also served as the chairman of Asiana Airlines

In 1993, he was named the first prime minister of the Kim Young-sam administration. Subsequently, he also served as a chief advisor to the conservative Democratic Liberal Party.

He is survived by wife Lee Ae-seop, three sons and one daughter.
