Top diplomats of Korea, Angola discuss ways to enhance ties

Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan and his Angolan counterpart George Rebello Chicoty held talks Friday and discussed how to promote bilateral ties, particularly in the field of energy and resources, officials said.

The Angolan foreign minister arrived in Seoul earlier in the day for a four-day visit that will include attending the opening ceremony of the World Expo in the southwestern port city of Yeosu.

During their talks, the two ministers "exchanged views on ways to increase high-level exchanges as well as substantive cooperation in energy, resources, economy, trade and development," said an official at Seoul's foreign ministry.

With rich reserves of oil, iron ore and manganese, Angola has "great potential" for growth and for cooperation with South Korea "in the fields of energy and resources," the official said on condition of anonymity. (Yonhap)
