Jeju Air to Rent Planes to Individuals
By Kim Rahn
Staff Reporter People will be able to lease a plane for private use, following Jeju Air’s new program allowing individuals to charter flights. Jeju Air, the Cheju (Jeju) Island-based low budget carrier, will launch the program named ``For the Special One _ You’’ from next Monday allowing the renting of one-way flights on the Kimpo-Cheju and Kimpo-Yangyang routes. It is the first time for a carrier to charter a regular flight for individuals, although there have been cases of renting flights to specific groups or companies. The rental is 4 million won for the Kimpo-Cheju route and 3 million won for the Kimpo-Yangyang route. Those wanting to charter the flight should make a reservation one month in advance. The program does not apply to weekends or during high demand seasons. The budget airline presumes CEOs of conglomerates or entertainers, who want to travel alone, will use the service. ``We’ve come up with the program as we have had requests from conglomerates and entertainers about charter flights. Ordinary passengers will not suffer inconvenience in flight schedule, as the reservation will be made one month before,’’ a Jeju Air official said. It costs at least 12 million won to charter a Korean Air or Asiana Airlines plane for the Kimpo-Cheju route to travel alone, so Jeju Air sees the 4 million won price tag as competitive, the official said. |
