9 teenagers face murder charges

Police requested arrest warrants for five teenagers on Thursday on suspicion of beating an 18-year-old girl to death, while booking four others without detention for their involvement in the murder case.

The teenagers are suspected of brutally beating the girl, surnamed Paek, to death with a baseball bat in an apartment in Goyang, north Gyeonggi Province, on April 5. Among them are six high school students.

They allegedly committed the crime after the girl used bad language toward them and refused to do what they told her.

Investigators at the Ilsan Police Station said the suspects were found to have buried the victim’s body in a nearby park the following morning.

According to police, the victim had spent time with the suspects since she met them in February after running away from home.

Police are conducting a further investigation into the case to check whether the suspects have committed other crimes.
