Korea helps Asia with vocational qualification

By Yi Whan-woo

Korea will help other Asian countries introduce vocational qualifications licenses, officials said Monday.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor said representatives from eight countries including Vietnam, Nepal and Pakistan will visit the Human Resources Development Service of Korea from April 10 to learn about the state-certified technical license system.

The overseas visitors requested an invitation believing Korea’s economic development is partly attributed to professional laborers, people who hold these qualification licenses.

The officials will introduce the license system during the 17-day program for the visiting countries to understand and coordinate the system into their respective labor market.

The ministry will also take the visitors to the test centers to show how the applicants are required to demonstrate their technical skills.

Korea supported Kazakhstan and Cambodia for two years in the past to set up a license system and this year will focus on helping Vietnam.

The officials anticipate demand for technical qualification licenses will grow in underdeveloped countries as they seek to boost their economy.

“We look forward to sharing our experience with constant feedback for the Asian countries to establish a similar system,” an official said.
