A middle-aged woman, who has previously assaulted Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon and Rep. Chung Dong-young of the main opposition Democratic United Party, was taken into police custody Sunday evening after disrupting a concert by popera star Yim Hyung-joo, police said Monday.
According to the Jongno Police Station, the 63-year-old woman, identified as Park, entered the main theater of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, downtown Seoul, at around 6:25 p.m., Sunday, when Yim was performing.
She shouted, “Why are you performing Chinese and Japanese songs? You are ‘ppalgaengi!’ (a communist). You are the lieutenant of Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun!” at him, according to multiple witnesses.
Sejong Center staff immediately stopped her from causing any further disruption and dragged her away and called the police.
Yim’s management company has sued Park for obstruction of business, while the performer has accused her of defaming his reputation.
The woman is notorious for attacking liberal figures. In November last year, the conservative-minded woman assaulted Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon during a civil defense drill briefing at City Hall Station in downtown Seoul.
In August, she attacked Chung during a rally promoting tuition cuts at Cheonggye Square. Park leaped at him, grabbed his hair and collar and called him: “The running dog of Kim Dae-jung and Roh Moo-hyun! You communist!”
