Doomsayer Kim Jung-sup, 55, owner of the Cheongsong Fortune-telling Institute, made the remarks Monday in an interview with the Seoul Economic Daily, a sister paper of The Korea Times. Kim also said he had predicted that Lee Myung-bak would win the presidential election in 2007 and that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il would die in 2011.
“Kim Jong-il was predicted to die in December when reading his saju based on records I received from the authorities concerned eight years ago,” Kim said. “There were strong signs of water and fire on Dec. 17 and 23, which meant the possibility of a big incident. As a result, I paid keen attention to what would happen on those days.”
Saju (fortune) or four pillars (time, day, month and year of birth) is a key factor in the ancient Chinese fortune-telling book, the “I Ching” or the “Classic of Changes.”
“I have never checked the saju of Kim Jong-un in detail. However, he was born with the spirit of a revolutionist like his grandfather,” the doomsayer said. “He could engage in moves different from those of his father who is bureaucratic.”
He also predicted that there were no signs of a war on the Korean Peninsula in 2012. “However, a great turmoil similar to a coup could take place in North Korea in 2012 as it is the year of great tumult as seen in the Japanese invasion of the peninsula in 1592,” he said. The two years are the same in the sexagenary cycle.
“A new president will become a cornerstone of unification of the peninsular,” he said. The coming presidential election will be held on Dec. 19 next year. “Unification would depend on who will become a second man in the North. But it would also be possible for the peninsular to be unified without war, initiated by the new president of the South through dialogue,” Kim explained.
He also said that a South-North summit is expected when a second leader could appear on the political forefront if Kim Jong-un loses a power struggle, and this would lead to speedy unification. But if Jong-un keeps power, it is probable that part of North Korea would be handed over to China, he predicted.
He has pinpointed Professor Ahn Cheol-su as the most favorite candidate in the coming presidential election. Ahn, 49, who started computer virus company AhnLab, is the dean of the Seoul National University Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology. He majored in medicine.
“Ahn is the strongest candidate for the upcoming presidential election as he has been born with the powerful sun’s energy,” he said. “Ruling party leader Park Geun-hye would play the role of a dam blocking water or endure difficult things in political strife in the year 2012 which is full of the dark signs of water. But it will be hard for her to win the presidential election. She is full of earth in her fate of next year.”
Kim also predicted that opposition parties would dominate both general and presidential elections in 2012. In the general elections, the opposition could win at the ratio of 6:4, making them dominate the National Assembly, he added. The parliamentary elections are scheduled for April.
He also foretold that the Korean economy would recover in 2013 at best. The year of 2013 is that of the serpent, which will brave through fog on the water,” he predicted, adding that both the real estate and stock markets will recover in 2013.
