Police investigate money-lending teenagers

Listen

Police said Sunday that they are investigating money-lending allegedly involving teenagers.

Parents filed complaints with the authorities that three students at a middle school in Incheon lent money to their peers, and used violence on the grounds that they failed to pay back the money. But they denied the allegations, a police officer said.

The parents of one child said their son borrowed 65,000 won from three of his fellow students, and repaid 330,000 won, including the principal and interest as he failed to pay the money back in time.

After suffering harassment, the boy stole money from his parents’ bank accounts to give it to the student loan sharks, a report said.

The parents insisted that their son is receiving medical treatment for depression caused by the violence he endured.
