The prosecution sought a 15-year prison term for an American soldier who was indicted on charges of raping an 18-year-old girl at her home in Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province.
In the first court hearing on the case, prosecutors also asked the court to have the 21-year-old Army private of the 2nd U.S. Infantry Division, identified as “K,” undergo therapy for sex offenders and to make his name and other personal information public.
The hearing was held 27 days after the alleged rape took place on Sept. 24 and 15 days after the prosecution indicted him.
“The American soldier doesn’t deserve a pity, as he committed sadistic sexual crime against a teenage girl,” a prosecutor told the judge.
According to prosecutors, he admitted to his wrongdoing and appealed for lenient punishment, saying he deeply regrets inflicting damage to the young student.
At around 4 a.m. on Sept. 24, the soldier broke into her studio apartment and raped and tortured the girl.
The court plans to deliver a sentence on Nov. 1.
