Six students at Yong In University were booked on suspicion of assaulting younger students, police said Tuesday.
The investigation came several days after MBC TV showed a video footage in primetime news showing dozens from the department of security service being beaten with baseball bats by older students at a school gym.
The scene was caught on a surveillance camera at the gym on April 11.
In the footage that runs for four hours, some nearly 100 younger students were apparently called to the gym to be taught “manners.”
They were told to take a push-up pose and assaulted with baseball bats. Some offenders slapped the younger students in the face, kicked them in the stomach and grabbed their hair.
Police said an investigation is underway. “We will soon determine how to punish the offenders,” said a detective familiar with the case.
The school was marred by another violence scandal three years ago, which claimed a freshman’s life. In March 2008, a freshman from the department of oriental martial arts died after being beaten up by older students.
