Daniel D. Yoo
By Lee Tae-hoon

Marine Corps Col. Daniel Yoo will be sworn in as the first Korean-American general in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Yoo, a U.S. Marine Corps fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, has been nominated for appointment to the rank of brigadier general, a U.S. defense official said Thursday.

A career infantry officer, Yoo most recently commanded the 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division and Camp Schwab in Okinawa, Japan.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal last July for outstanding performance as a commander of a U.S. unit during his deployment in Afghanistan between July 2009 and April 2010.

Colonel Yoo earned his undergraduate degree from Arizona State University and received a master’s degree from the Naval War College.

He was a national security affairs fellow at the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace, Stanford University.
