Two Samsung workers commit suicide in 10 days

By Han Sang-hee

Two Samsung Electronics workers threw themselves off a dormitory building in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, less than two weeks apart in apparent unrelated suicides.

According to Asan Police Station, Thursday, a 25-year-old female employee who worked in the LCD department jumped from the 13th floor of the dormitory Tuesday morning. She had taken two months of sick leave due to stress and depression last November and was preparing to return to work.

Her suicide came 10 days after another 24-year-old worker jumped off the 18th floor of the building. She had been negotiating with the company over returning to work after six months of sick leave.

A police officer said that there seems to be no correlation between the two cases but they are continuing the investigation.
