Mundane qualifications for ideal bride and groom

What are the qualifications to be an ideal spouse for Korean women? He should be taller than 177 centimeters, work for the government or state-run companies, earn over 43 million won per year and have 240 million won in assets, according to a survey conducted by the matchmaking firm Duo.

What about qualifications for an ideal female spouse? Korean men want to marry a 163.6 centimeters-tall school teacher earning 32 million won per year with 160 million won in assets, Duo said Wednesday.

In a survey of 978 single men and women aged 20-39 nationwide, conducted by the Duo Human Life Research Institute, single women want their future husband to make an average of 43.4 million won a year. It marks a fall from the 45.8 million won salary marked the previous year.

Men also said they would be satisfied if their future wife earned an average annual salary of 32.1 million won, inched down from 32.4 million won in 2009. The institute attributed the drop in expected wages for potential spouses to the prolonged sluggish job market and other unfavorable economic conditions.

About 15.1 percent of male respondents said they want their future wife to be a school teacher, followed by a public sector employee at 13.4 percent and an office worker at 9 percent.

A government employee or public firm worker are the most preferred occupations that women prefer for their future husband at 14.2 percent, followed by an office worker and accountants both at 7.6 percent.

About 33.2 percent of men want to marry a woman who is 3 to 4 years younger, while 38.6 percent of women seek to find men 3 to 4 years older. Only 15.4 percent of male respondents seek to marry a woman older than they are, with only 9 percent of women wanting to marry a younger man.

The institute also said both men (31 percent) and women (29.7 percent) regard personality as the most important factor in marriage. Then, men pay a great deal of attention on the appearance of their future wife, while women put priority on men’s financial standing and occupation.

More than 63 percent of men would like to tie the knot when they are between 29 and 32, with 59.2 percent of women wanting to get married from 27 to 30.

진부한 ‘이상적인’ 신랑신부의 조건

한국 여성들에게 이상적인 배우자의 조건은 무엇일까? 결혼 정보 회사 듀오가 설문 조사한 결과 선호하는 남성은 신장 177cm 이상, 공무원이나 공기업에 다니면서 연소득 4,300 만원에 자산 2억 4,000만원으로 나타났다.

그렇다면 이상적인 여성 배우자는 어떨까? 한국 남성들이 원하는 여성은 신장 163.6cm, 직업은 교사이며 연소득 3,200만원에 자산 1억 6,000만원이었다.

듀오가 전국 20세 이상 39세 이하 미혼 남녀 978명을 조사한 결과, 여성은 미래의 배우자의 평균 희망 연봉이 4,340 만원으로 나타났다. 이는 작년 4,580만원 보다 240만원이 감소하였다. 남성 또한 배우자의 평균 희망 연봉이 2009년의 3,240만원 보다 30만원 적은 3,210만원으로 조사됐다. 듀오는 일자리 부족과 경기 침체로 인해 미래 배우자의 희망 연봉이 감소 됐다고 보고 있다.

남성들이 희망하는 배우자의 직업은 교사(15%), 공무원(13.4%), 일반 사무직(9%) 순이였다.

여성들은 공무원ㆍ공사(14.2%), 일반사무직(7.6%), 회계사(7.6%) 순으로 선호하였다. 이상적인 배우자의 연령은 33.2%의 남성이 3-4세 연하, 38.6%의 여성이 3-4세 연상을 꼽았다.

15.4%의 남성만이 연상의 배우자를, 9%의 여성이 연하의 배우자를 선호했다.

또한 남(31%), 녀(29.7%) 모두 배우자의 성격을 가장 중요하게 생각한다고 밝혔다. 그 다음으로 중요하게 생각하는 것은 남성은 외모, 여성은 경제력을 꼽았다. 63%이상의 남성이 ‘29~32세’, 59.2%의 여성이 ‘27~30세’가 결혼 적령기라고 답했다.
