The man who leaked singer Baek Ji-young’s sex video on the Internet and later fled to the United States will be extradited next month, Yonhap News reported Saturday.
An official from the Ministry of Justice said the U.S. government decided to deport Kim Seok-jin, 45. He is expected to arrive in Korea on Oct. 8, escorted by a U.S. law enforcement officer.
In 2001, Kim, then the manager of the celebrity singer Baek, leaked the video in which he had sex with her, creating a national murmur in the conservative nation, heavily influenced by Confucianism.
Kim subsequently fled to the United States and stayed there. However, he was arrested in February this year for having sex with an underage girl.
Kim requested a bail, but was denied when the U.S. authorities discovered that he was on the run after his crime in Korea.
In Korea, Kim is on the police wanted list for defamation and violation of electronic communications law.
During the sex scandal, Kim held an interview with media and claimed that he was also a victim of the leakage.
