If you let your dog run wild and don't clean up after it during a walk in the park, it will make your wallet lighter.
The Seoul City said Sunday that it will more strictly enforce penalties on dog owners who fail to keep their pets on leashes or to clean their waste in parks from this week.
Owners will be fined 50,000 won ($45)when they unleash dogs and 70,000 won unless they clean up their pets’waste. The city first introduced such penalties in 2007, but has not actually enforced them.
"There were 1.5 million dogs as pets in Seoul last year," a city official said. "That has led to some problems between pet owners and park visitors, and we will get tougher on violators."
The crackdown will take place at 17 major parks across the city, including Namsan Park and Yeouido Park.
The city asked pet owners to carry plastic bags for waste and to place mouth guards on particularly big breeds to prevent injuries to others.
