Two Korean Major League players, Choo Shin-soo of the Cleveland Indians and Park Chan-ho of the Pittsburgh Pirates, had good performances on Wednesday (KST).
Choo blasted three hits and stole a base against the Chicago White Sox while Park pitched 2/3 inning against the Chicago Cubs extending his run of scoreless games to seven.
The Tribe’s Korean outfielder went 3-for-5 with a run improving his batting average from .291 to .294.
At the bottom of the first inning Choo’s hit landed in front of centerfield. The 28-year-old then got to second on a steal, his 16th of the season.
In the fifth Choo generated a double and then rounded home plate thanks to Jayson Nix’s hit and a White Sox error.
Though Choo led the Indians for a 4-1 lead until the seventh inning it allowed four runs in the eighth for a 6-4 defeat.
Park arrived on the mound in the seventh inning.
With the runners on first and third with one out, Park allowed a hit that took the score to 4-2 in the Cubs favor. But Park finished the inning with a strikeout and a right field fly ball.
As Park was due to stand at bat, he was substituted in the eighth and the 37-year-old reliever lowered his ERA to 5.44
