South Korea will ease its months-long cap on the number of its citizens allowed to stay overnight at the joint Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea, an official said Tuesday.
The number would increase to 900 from the current 600, the official said on condition of anonymity.
The measure comes amid growing signs of easing tension on the Korean Peninsula. The South has blamed the North for the deadly sinking of its warship in March.
On Monday, South Korea’s Red Cross said it will send 10 billion won ($8.5 million) worth of aid to help North Korea recover from recent floods.
In addition, Red Cross officials of the two sides will meet in the North Korean border town of Gaeseong Friday to discuss details of the reunion of separated families.
