Professor at Harvard fabricated thesis paper

Marc Hauser, psychology professor at Harvard University, is solely responsible for eight instances of scientific misconduct.

The university found there were “problems involving data acquisition, data analysis, data retention and the reporting of research methodologies and results” with his paper.

A 2002 paper in the journal ‘Cognition,’ which showed that cotton-top tamarin monkeys were like human infants in being able to recognize patterns in groups of syllables, has been retracted. Also, two other papers require corrections.

Hauser is an international expert in the evolution of morality who spoke at a forum in Sydney last year with Dalai Lama. He is also an author of the book ‘Moral Minds: How nature designed out universal sense of right and wrong.’

Prof. Hauser, who is on leave, apologized in a statement, saying he had learnt a lot from the investigation and would change his approach to research and practices in his lab.

타마린 원숭이도 음성패턴의 변화 같은 자극에 반응한다는 점을 바탕으로 깔고 있는 2002년 저널 ‘인식’지에 올린 논문도 철회됐다. 다른 두 논문도 정정을 요구 받았다.

하우저는 달라이 라마와 함께 작년 시드니에서 열린 포럼에서 연설한적 있는 도덕의 진화에 관한 전문가 이다. 그는 또한 ‘도덕적 마음’ 의 저자이기도 하다.

떠날 준비를 하는 하우저 교수는 이번 조사에서 많은 것을 배웠다며 연구에 응하는 자세와 연구하는 자세를 바꾸겠다고 말하며 사과했다.
