Members of the South Korean Army’s “Dongmyeong” unit salute the national flag during a send-off ceremony in Incheon, Thursday, ahead of their departure for Lebanon as U.N. peacekeepers. Korea will dispatch 348 soldiers this month to replace the military contingent currently serving in the Middle Eastern country. Stationed since 2007, the battalion-sized “Dongmyeong” conducts reconnaissance and surveillance operations, helps the construction of schools and other public facilities, and provides medical and educational services.
