Study groups using Twitter, Facebook hot in Korea

In South Korea, popular social networking tools such as Twitter and Facebook are more than just about networking, but also studying as more and more salaried workers find them useful in networking with people who share the common interest and form study groups, said the Maeil Business Newspaper.

The new trend is particularly spearheaded by IT workers at major South Korean firms, including Samsung and SK Telecom, it said on Saturday.

At Samsung, for example, people have formed study groups using the social network service to exchange their ideas and information on wireless network technology and as a platform for maven talks.

“When you need a certain information, for example, you can twit and get instant advice from experts,” said Song In-hyuck, a researcher at Samsung, told the newspaper, explaining why those Internet tools are popular as a news means of learning and sharing among salaried workers.

It said social networking tools are increasingly popular among workers who often travel a lot and want to stay in touch their home headquarters colleagues for work coordination, it said.
