An Australian man has set a world record by swallowing eighteen swords in one jaw-dropping gulp, the Daily Mail reported.
Chayne Hultgren, who calls himself the Space Cowboy, slid the 2ft 4in blades down his throat in Sydney as onlookers held their breath and prepared to call for an ambulance.
But Hultgren, 31, proved he was a cut above the rest of the world's street entertainers by slowly slipping the swords, all bound together with a steel clasp, down his throat as he held his head back to create a straight channel into his lower body.
``It's amazing ― I'm really happy,'' said Hultgren, from Byron Bay, after withdrawing the blades. ``It's definitely one of my greatest achievements so far.''
Not that he's any beginner. He has been practicing the dangerous art since he was 16 when he started out by swallowing a garden hose.
``It's not dangerous when you know how to do it, but it's not something that's recommended by my doctor.''
There are at least 100 members ― male and female ― of the Sword Swallowers Association International. But deaths are extremely rare.
칼 18개를 한입에 `꿀꺽'
호주의 한 남성이 호주에서 열린 '칼 많이 삼키기 대회'에서 약 73cm되는 칼날 18개를 삼키는 기네스 신기록을 세웠다고 데일리 메일이 보도했다.
이 묘기의 주인공인 체인 헐트그렌은 세계곳곳을 누비는 거리 공연가로, 2년 전 자신의 종전기록인 16개를 갈아치우며 최고 기록을 수립했다.
31살 자칭 '우주카우보이'인 그는 16살 때 '호스삼키기'를 시작했다. 그 이후로 지금의 칼 삼키기를 꾸준히 연습해왔다. 특히 목과 몸 안의 장기들이 크게 손상되지 않기 위해 기술을 개발, 연마한 것으로 알려졌다.
그는 "이 묘기 자체가 위험한 일이고 하다 보면 종종 몸 안에 상처를 입곤 하지만 전 세계를 돌아다니며 이 모습을 보여주는 것이 재미있다"며 "앞으로도 이 기록을 경신해나갈 것"이라고 포부를 밝혔다.
한편 전세계에서 100명 정도가 '칼삼키기'를 묘기를 하고 있으며, 이를 통해 목숨을 잃는 경우는 드문것으로 알려져 있다.
