Seoul and Eindhoven of the Netherlands agreed to promote exchanges and cooperation on design during the 26th World Design Congress in Singapore last month.
Chung Kyung-won, the chief design officer of Seoul, and Mariette Mittendorf, vice mayor of Eindhoven, agreed to strengthen cooperation and exchanges in the field.
Eindhoven will join the World Design Cities Summit Seoul in February and Seoul Design Fair in September. The mayor of Eindhoven will visit Seoul and explain how her city has nurtured its design industry.
The cities will work together to exchange innovative design education programs.
Meanwhile, Helsinki, Finland, was named the World Design Capital for 2012 at the congress.
Design is one of key themes being promoted by Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who decided to provide textbooks for elementary students on it.
