A woman who offered her ova to former Seoul National University professor Hwang Woo-suk's stem cell study lost a compensational suit against the research team Wednesday. The Seoul Central District Court's appeal case division ruled against a woman who had donated her eggs to Mizmedi Hospital for use in stem cell research.
The medical team allegedly used toxic chemicals to stimulate her ovulation, which caused her great stress, her lawyers said.
She claimed that she wasn't informed of possible side effects of the excessive ovulation and that she felt mortified when Hwang's report turned out to be manipulated. She asked the hospital, which provided the eggs to Hwang and his team, to pay her 32 million won in compensation.
The court said, "Her doctors have informed her of the procedures and possible side effects through documents. The court didn't find any direct linkage between her damage and the research failure either."
