Shin Hyun-song
Presidential Advisor
By Na Jeong-ju
Staff Reporter

Shin Hyun-song, an economics professor at Princeton University, has been named chief advisor to President Lee Myung-bak on international finance, Cheong Wa Dae said Monday.

A native of Daegu, Shin, 50, has lectured at the prestigious university since 2006 on financial institutions, disclosures, risk and financial stability issues.

He will advise President Lee on ways to increase Korea's presence in international finance and spur economic recovery, the presidential office said.

Shin is also expected to play a key role in helping Korea prepare for the G20 Seoul Summit slated for November next year.

Before going to Princeton, he was a professor of finance at the London School of Economics. He has served as editor and editorial board member of several scholarly journals, and worked with central banks and policy organizations on financial issues. He is a fellow of the Econometric Society and of the British Academy.

Shin earned a doctorate degree in economics at the University of Oxford.
