Lost UK Cat Found in Spain

A cat in Britain went missing from his home and was discovered in Spain after three days of being lost, Daily Telelgraph reported.

Sandi, a cat owned by Tim and Patricia Austin, failed to come back home last Friday. Tim and Patricia searched for him by putting up posters and handing out leaflets to people in their neighborhood.

However, three days later, they received a surprise call saying that Sandi was alive and well in Spain. Sandi was found onboard the P&O ferry the Pride of Balibo, Saturday night sailing from nearby Portsmouth to the Spanish port.

Mr. Austin, 67, said, "We know our cat wouldn't have gotten into a car or van with strangers by himself. We even can't get him into a car. We think he got out of the vehicle on the ferry when someone opened the door and he ran."

P&O contacted Matt Ford, from Animal Health, the government agency for the safety of animals, and asked what they do with the cat. They contacted Sandi's owner Austin and they were very happy that their pet was safe.

Brian Rees, P&O spokesman said that Sandi's been treated like a VIP and he's being loved by the crews. He added, "I think most of the crew have had a cuddle ― they will be sad to see him go."

팀과 패트리시아 오스틴이 기르던 고양이 샌디는 지난 금요일 길을 잃어버렸다. 팀과 패트리시아는 고양이를 찾기 위해 길마다 포스터를 붙였고, 주위 사람들에게 유인물을 돌리면서 온 도시를 뒤졌다.

하지만 3일 후, 두 사람은 샌디가 살아 있으며 스페인에 있다는 전화 한 통을 받았다. 샌디는 토요일 밤 포츠머츠를 출발해 스페인의 빌바오로 가던 증기선에서 발견 되었다.

팀(67)은 "고양이가 낯선 사람을 따라 차에 타지는 않았을 것 같고 우연히 누군가의 차를 탔다가 차가 배에 실리면서 같이 들어간 것 같다고" 전했다.

찾는 과정도 극적이었는데, 증기선 사무소가 영국 동물안전국 매트 포드에게 연락을 해 고양이를 어떻게 해야 할지 물었다. 그들은 샌디의 주인인 오스틴 부부에게 연락을 주었고, 이들은 고양이가 안전하다는 소식에 기뻐 어쩔 줄을 몰랐다.

증기선 관계자인 브라이언 리스는 샌디가 VIP로 모셔지고 있으며 승무원들에게 사랑을 많이 받고 있다고 전했다. 그는 "많은 승무원들이 고양이를 귀여워하고 있어서 떠나 보낼 때 아쉬울 것 같다"고 덧붙였다.
