Jun Kwang-woo, a former chairman of the Financial Services Commission, will take over the top position at the National Pension Service (NPS), which has remained vacant since former Commissioner Park Hae-choon left the post in September.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Family Affairs recommended Jun as the new head of the state pension fund. Jun is expected to take office as early as this week after President Lee Myung-bak confirms the recommendation.

Jun is an international finance specialist, who had worked for the World Bank as a chief economist, and served for Woori Financial Group as vice chairman. Later, he moved to Deloitte Korea, and served as chairman for the international consulting and accounting firm.

Jun was evaluated to have inspired attitudes towards service at the Financial Services Commission during his term from March 2008 to January 2009.
