Two opposition lawmakers have been found guilty of destroying parliamentary property during a bipartisan clash at the National Assembly over the contentious free trade agreement bill with the United States in December, Yonhap News Agency reported, quoting court officials.

Rep. Moon Hak-jin of the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) was fined 2 million won ($1,732) and Rep. Lee Jung-hee of the minor opposition Democratic Labor Party (DLP) was fined 500,000 won, according to the Seoul Southern District Court.

Seven other DP and DLP aides were also fined 4 to 5 million won for their role in the violent brawl.

Prosecutors had indicted the two lawmakers in June for using hammers and other tools to try and break into a room at the National Assembly which had been occupied and barricaded by the ruling Grand National Party. The GNP was attempting to ratify the free trade deal with the United States.

야당의원 2명 '국회폭력'으로 벌금형

야당의원 2명이 지난 해 12월 미국과의 자유무역협정 법안 국회 처리 과정에서 기물을 파손한 혐의로 유죄판결을 받았다고 연합뉴스가 법원 관계자들을 인용해 보도했다.

서울남부지법에 따르면 민주당 문학진 의원은 벌금 200만원, 민노당 이정희 의원은 벌금 50만원의 선고를 받은 것으로 나타났다.

두 당의 보좌관 7명도 이번 사건과 관련해 400-500만원의 벌금을 선고받았다.

검찰은 집권 한나라당에 의해 점거되고 있던 국회 회의장을 해머 등을 동원해 파손하고 침입한 혐의로 이들 국회의원 2명을 기소했었다. 당시 한나라당은 미국과 체결한 자유무역협정을 인준하려던 참이었다.
