Large scale of e-sports stadiums will be built in Sangam Digital Media Center (DMC), the Seoul Metropolitan Government said Sunday.
They will consist of a main stadium with 800 seats and an auxiliary stadium with 160 seats.
They will be used for international online game events as well as domestic competitions. The city government plans to set up "Seoul Game Theme Park" in the complex center by 2012 August in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
A total of 45.8 billion won ($40 million) will be invested into the park project. The theme park will accommodate the first-ever e-sports stadiums and computer game development companies along with online game research institutes.
"Seoul is a Mecca for online games, taking 35 percent of the online game market around the world. We will develop cyber game industry and cultivate sound game culture through the park," said a city official.
