Teenager Jumps From Apartment After Taking Tamiflu

The authorities reported the first case in the nation of a teenager who took Tamiflu and injured himself by jumping from a building, allegedly under the hallucinogenic effect of the flu medicine, Yonhap News Agency reported on Saturday.

A 14-year-old teenager, identified as Lee, was discovered with fracture in his bones and head injuries on Oct. 30 in Gyeonggi Province at the entrance of his apartment.

The day before, the boy developed high fever and was prescribed with Tamiflu at a hospital. He came back home, took the medicine and went to bed.

The boy apparently jumped from the six-floor window of his apartment later. But he didn't remember anything about the incident.

In 2005 and 2007 in Japan, there were reports that teenagers who took Tamiflu threw themselves from a building, apparently under the influence of hallucination, Yonhap said.

The authorities are currently looking into the case.

Apparently Tamiflu has mild hallucinogenic effects. haven't taken it myself but if I catch flu then I will have it. Roche probably considers the odd injury of death mere collateral damage.

I am sooo confused, in one article it is saying the military is hoarding the drug needed to protect people from H1N1. in this article it is saying that tamiflu is bad for you.

yea..hey..I tried to kill myself by jumping from a 6th story window..oh crap, I am still alive...but WOW..I don't remember anything with all the broken bones and head injuries...just give me more painkillers and let me be in laah laah land...so we will have mom and dad bring on a lawsuit against Tamiflu..meanwhile...

It is hard to say what caused this Korean teenager to jump from the building. After all many Koreans cannot stand their lives and decide to end it early.

A doctor wanted to give my grandson(2.5 years old) Tamiflu, because he suspected my grandson had the flu. My son told them no, and the test for H1N1 came back negative.
