K-Pop singer Shin Hye-sung, 30, also a member of the group Shinhwa, was fined 10 million won ($8,600) for habitual gambling.
The Incheon District Court on Thursday convicted Shin of habitual gambling, frequenting casinos in Macau, China, five times from July 2007 to April 2008. He lost 142 million won on his trips."We recognized recidivism in Shin's gambling, as he frequently visited Macau and the amount he spent was large," the court said.
Shin was indicted without physical restraint in August.
Liveworks Company, Shin's agency, posted an apology Friday. "Shin hasn't visited the gambling destination since April 2008. He is feeling guilty about what he did and is doing some reflection," the agency said. Shin will stop appearing on TV and go through a self-discipline period.
A number of entertainers have had brushes with the law due to habitual gambling.
Kang Byung-gyu, a baseball player-turned-emcee, is now in forced retirement after he splurged hundreds of millions of won in online gambling.
A former singer, who now works as a comedian, had to spend months "in regret" after being found to have lost a large sum of money in a private gambling pit.
