President Lee Myung-bak’s bicycle was sold for 310,000 won during an auction at a flea market in Olympic Park, southern Seoul, Saturday.
The starting bid for the bike was 300,000 won. The final bidder, a man in his 50s, was identified as a civil servant who is a bicycle enthusiast.
Lee is known to have used the bicycle on a daily basis within the Cheong Wa Dae compound. A picture frame donated by Lee Maan-ee, minister of environment, sold for 200,000 won; a pen by Lee Kwi-nam, minister of justice, for 180,000; and a globe by Yu Myung-hwan, minister of foreign affairs and trade, for 120,000 won.
A total of 50 donations were auctioned, earning more than 2.6 million won. The proceeds are to be donated to charity organizations.
